Grass Trimmers

Grass trimmers are great around the garden – they can be used to cut long grass down to an easier length for your lawnmower, or to whack weeds in those hard to get places your mower can’t reach. Some trimmers also have an edging feature – giving your lawns a nice neat finish.

Features

Some key grass trimmer features to look out for include:

Power - Grass trimmers can be electric, battery powered or petrol powered. Electric power is useful if you have a small to medium sized garden – and have access to a power point. Large gardens or less accessible areas are better suited to battery or petrol power.

Swathe width - Trimmers work by cutting a swathe through long grass or weeds. Some trimmers use a double line to increase their efficiency.
The length of the line determines the area covered in each sweep. The longer the line, the wider the sweep and the quicker your trimming takes.

Line replacement - As well as through normal wear and tear, your line may also need replacing if it is broken (through hitting a hard object). You can easily replace this line through feeding in more line from the integral spool. Other models include a line feed that automatically replaces a broken line, allowing you to carry on trimming without interruption.

Height adjustment - Trimmers are operated by holding the upper handle and mid-way down the shaft. Some trimmers have a secondary handle partway down the shaft making them more comfortable to use and increasing your level of control. Some shafts may also be extendable, so you can adjust to suit your height.
